[sticky post] Welcome to Hinamizawa-When They Translate
Greetings!  This is the official community for the When They Translate, a group currently working on translating the Higurashi visual novels into English, starting with Watanagashi-hen and picking up where the previous group left off.  I help maintain this community and work as a beta-tester/editor for the group.  The patches provided here will be for the Japanese versions of the games, so you will need to have imported at least Himatsubushi-hen and Matsuriyabashi-hen in order to apply them.  A lot of us had already purchased the games before MangaGamer's releases, only for the original translation project to grind to a halt.  The "official" translation provided by MangaGamer had many problems, including switched sprites and music, poor translation, and the removal of all extras.  Rest assured these patches will not have these same issues and will be more accurate to the original works.  Also, please be aware that this is a small group, so the patches may take some time.  We will do our best to keep you updated.

NOTE:  I came up with the "When They Translate" name.: P

Oh, I just saw this entry. Where can I find Onikakushi's translation patch? Was that translation "consistent" with yours?

I'll see about getting one uploaded. We used the twins' patch, with more credit than they deserve. I know some changes were made on my suggestion, like readding Rika's "desu".

Hello, sorry for bringing this up but I really wanna know: so does Onikakushi-hen already have a fan translation that is superior to the MangaGamer translation? Since you're translating Watanagashi-hen right now yourself.

If so, where can one get it? Is it related to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTYXwWF_ad0 or not really?

Or wait... is it just that there's not point in having only the first arc translation, and that you're simply continuing on it by going for arc 2 and onwards?

There is already a superior translation for the first arc. Originally, it was made by another group that later hurt a lot of people and broke promises, abandoning the project. That left a lot of us with copies of the games and no patch. We used that patch with our own, making some fixes they refused to.

It's not like that video, but I do believe we're working on something like that eventually.

I didn't understand your last question, however.

Anyway, we can upload the patch, if you want, but you need a Japanese copy of the game for it. You can also download the first game legally on the official Higurashi site.

Hmm I see I see. Well, I haven't seen this patch anywhere else. I assume it's not the same one that exists on Higurashi Tweak (that one was made by some /jp/ anons I think)

So if you could upload it, then that would be great, thank you.

About downloading the game
Where precisely can I download the original japanese game? I don't understand japanese and I haven't found any english site where to download the game.

Re: About downloading the game

On the left side, there are a bunch of buttons. The second one should take you to a page with numbered download links. I've not tried these in a long time, but they should still be active.

Please keep in mind, if you are not in Japan, you cannot use links 1-6. Also, this contains the first arc only, but none of the extras that come along with that episode-you'll only get those if you buy the game.
