Hello! Update time!
Hello there! Just popping in to tell you all that the project is going great! Translating is good as ever and I've even managed to get some of the alternative choices for the PS2-only arcs in Higurashi Matsuri done too! ^^

My goal is to have Watanagashi-hen finished and ready for you all to read by at least the end of June! And soon as it's done I'll be getting started on Tatarigoroshi-hen!

I want to thank you all for been so patient for me. I'm the only one translating now but I will see this whole project through to the end! ^^

Cool bro!!!
That is really good to hear, can't wait for the translation just wanting to say what happend to your partner syberiawinx???

P.S: Good work on your efforts so far, by the time you finished the translations is going to live forever. I belive in you!!!

Re: Cool bro!!!
Thank you! ^^

syberiawinx is still involved in the project and helps me with the editing and making sure the translation is the best it can be. The other translations, unfortunately, had to back out so it's only me now who's translating it. :)

I'm almost done with Day 7 so that means only 5 more Days left and Watanagashi-hen should be finished!

Cool bro!!!
May I ask what drove them to back out?

If not then I understand it might be personal...

Re: Cool bro!!!
No, it's fine.

It was just time constraints and such, which I more than understand since translating something as big as the Higurashi VNs take up a lot of time. Even I struggle some days to find time to translate the arc.

Still, as long as I have the few people I have right now to edit the script and check my translation to make sure it's correct, I'm fine. :)

Re: Cool bro!!!
Well that is cool I kinda wish I could be there when you actually finish it!

Well I'll let you get back to your work!

P.S: Just don't get frustrated when translating I know it is alot of work some of the times! :)

E-mail
Hi, does your group have an e-mail? I'm sorry for the sudden question, but there's something I'd like to ask in private. Thank you.

Re: E-mail
Sorry, we don't have a group e-mail. However, if you have any questions, just message me and I can answer them. :)

I hope the translation is doing well :D
Hey, I've been following this for about half a year now. I'd definitely love a better translation than the MangaGamer one, and this one looks very promising. I'm sure you're doing your best and I'll support you to the end.

I have a question though, since you're continuing the work from where the Sonozaki twins left off, are you still using "keeyute" as the translated form of Rena's slurring ("kaii") of the word "kawaii"? (Please forgive me if I've forgotten the exact spelling of any of these.) I know it wasn't your team (who are fantastic by the way) that was responsible for this, but do I really need to explain why using "keeyute" instead of "cuuuute" or something similar is the most painfully awful decision ever made? I hate to be pessimistic (well, actually, I love to be pessimistic, but let's put that aside for now since Higurashi is something I love) but that single word plus the inferior save system (which unfortunately I don't believe you can change?) would be enough to make me stay with MangaGamer's version. And I'm sure you understand how awful that is.

To end on a more positive note, I'm not entirely sure how much of this is rumour and how much is confirmed, but apparently When They Cry 5 will begin after Rose Guns Days concludes with Season 4. This means we should be looking at an August 2014 Japanese release for Episode 1 :D

Should I clarify once more that I really love the work you're doing and can't wait for the Watanagashi release?

Re: I hope the translation is doing well :D
Hi there!

First of all, I apologize for how damn long it's taken me to reply to your comment! I've been pretty busy as of late and I never got round to writing out this reply.

Answering your question, nope, we won't be using "keeyute". Syberiawinx told me how no one really liked the twins translating it that way and so I decided to go down a different route. I translate it as plain old "adorable". :) Similarly, I've chosen not to translate "desu" into "yes" and keep it as "desu", as well as "nano desu".

Other translation changes we've made are calling Angel Mort a diner rather than restaurant. We wanted to call it a cafés since that's what it actually is, but Onscripter doesn't show the é, so we went with diner in the end. I hope this is okay and not too much of a change?

Thank you for your lovely post. I'm still working on Watanagashi-hen. Slowly, I know, but I'm confident enough in the translation that when it's finished everyone will be happy with it! ^^

Re: I hope the translation is doing well :D
No problem on the reply time, I've just been away from the internet for a week. Still looking forward to your translation, of course!

The solution for Rena's love of cuteness certainly seems acceptable. I'm not sure about the "desu" and "nano desu" though, since there's no real English equivalent in common conversation I'm not sure it important to include anything at all. Did MangaGamer do anything? I don't recall them doing anything for the desu/nanodesu. I guess it's a problem when catchphrases don't really translate properly across languages...

Diner seems a bit too "formal" considering Angel Mort is... you know... Angel Mort. There aren't any obvious alternatives though, and I'm sure you've already thought through all these things. If you have any other things you're not sure about I'd be perfectly happy to offer my opinions, and I'm certain a lot of other fans would as well.

Keep doing your fantastic work :D

Just out of curiosity
Not to doubt your word, because I really don't want to for one,but since the last post to do with this I see(Please note the I see,I JUST signed up for this site because of this project and still don't have the hang of it,so I may be missing something)was a comment reply on July 2nd,this is still going on,right? If it is then that's wonderful,I wish you good luck and I'll wait as long as this takes, until then keep up the good work.

Re: Just out of curiosity
No worries, and yes it's still going. I need to update more, so I apologise for the lack of upadates and everything. ^^'

Currently, we're editing Day 5 and 6 and its TIPS and I'm going through my translation for Day 7 and 8 and its TIPS. I'm also going to release, very soon, a patch of Onikakushi-hen which is consistent with my translation. That way it won't be too jarring when Watanagashi-hen is done when everyone goes to read it, and it gives people something to read and catch up on while I try and finish off Watanagashi-hen by the end of the year.

Thank you for sticking with the group. We'll try not to let you guys down! :)

I have question, is there any newest patch uploaded?
John Rafael Yumang ArdaJohn Rafael Yumang Arda on September 9th, 2013 12:36 pm (UTC)
I can't see any.
So I guess none.
We can just wait and hope for the Onikakushi-hen patch that he promised.
I'm still rooting for you BaratoMaya!
sum422sum422 on September 9th, 2013 01:01 pm (UTC)
The edited Onikakushi-hen patch will be out this week. I'm releasing two versions. One will be the original PC version and one will have PS2 graphics, voices and music. ^^
boczys on September 9th, 2013 08:11 pm (UTC)
by pc version you mean emulated version? :]
sum422sum422 on September 9th, 2013 09:41 pm (UTC)
Yes!

It'll be the demo version, so you can just download and then play right away. :)
John Rafael Yumang ArdaJohn Rafael Yumang Arda on September 10th, 2013 12:23 pm (UTC)
Wait... So is the original PC version the one with hamster hands?
And the one with PS2 graphics, music, and voices the ported one?
So I would need a copy of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Matsuri...
sum422sum422 on September 10th, 2013 12:50 pm (UTC)
No, you don't need Matsuri. Someone's patched the voices, graphic etc into the script for the PC version. You just download the demo version with the patch included and can play straight away. :)
John Rafael Yumang ArdaJohn Rafael Yumang Arda on September 10th, 2013 12:56 pm (UTC)
I see.
But how would we read the whole novel? :/
Do we need the files from the original JAP sound novel?
Or is Mangagamer's version enough?
And how is this different from Mangagamer's work?
Thanks. c:
Sorry I ask too much. xD
sum422sum422 on September 10th, 2013 02:54 pm (UTC)
No, it's fine, I understand.

The demo version has all of Onikakushi-hen on it. I'll release it with the English patch already included with the original JAP, so all you'd need to do was locate the When They Cry patch folder and start playing. :)

It'll just be Onikakushi-hen of course, since we're still working on Watanagashi-hen. The translation will be by Sonozaki Futago-tachi will a few changes by my friend and I so it matches our translation of Watanagashi-hen.

The twin's translation is FAR superior to MangaGamer which cuts out and simplizes a lot of stuff. One of these days I should show a comparison... xD
John Rafael Yumang ArdaJohn Rafael Yumang Arda on September 11th, 2013 08:33 am (UTC)
Ooooh. I see.
So I'll be assuming that when you release the whole patch, it would be with the whole original JAP game?
:3
And I'm looking forward to this superior translation. xD
massy90 on September 16th, 2013 10:47 am (UTC)
Has a new Onikakushi patch been uploaded?!
ext_2035464 on September 20th, 2013 10:09 am (UTC)
I think when sum422 mentions a time frame, you're supposed to take the number of hours until then and multiply it by infinity.

Nah I'm just kidding. Maybe multiply it by 10-20?
sum422sum422 on September 20th, 2013 04:53 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry, I really am. I know I'm ridiculously slow. ^^'

It's been a busy week for me (I just graduated. Still no excuse, I know).

Anyway, today's Friday. So, the Onikakushi patch that has our little edits in it will be released on the Thursday or Friday. I want to make sure that I don't leave anything out or mess up the coding and all. :)

Definitely those days! Thank you so much for being patient with me!
