Greetings!  This is the official community for the When They Translate, a group currently working on translating the Higurashi visual novels into English, starting with Watanagashi-hen and picking up where the previous group left off.  I help maintain this community and work as a beta-tester/editor for the group.  The patches provided here will be for the Japanese versions of the games, so you will need to have imported at least Himatsubushi-hen and Matsuriyabashi-hen in order to apply them.  A lot of us had already purchased the games before MangaGamer's releases, only for the original translation project to grind to a halt.  The "official" translation provided by MangaGamer had many problems, including switched sprites and music, poor translation, and the removal of all extras.  Rest assured these patches will not have these same issues and will be more accurate to the original works.  Also, please be aware that this is a small group, so the patches may take some time.  We will do our best to keep you updated.

NOTE:  I came up with the "When They Translate" name.: P

Finished Day 10, Part 1 yesterday and inserted the translation into the script today. Started on Part 2 and will either have that done by the end of the week or next.

I've also ditched porting Le Sanglot des Cigales Festival Matsuri patch into English. The main reason is because there's no file to the Answer arc version. I like consistancy and I don't want to put all the effort into the English translation, just to turn around later and tell you all I can't do the Answer arcs. So, instead, I'm porting the Nscripter engine instead. It took me a day or two, but I've changed all the sprites and backgrounds to the ones from the PS3 version, Sui. And same for the voices. This way, you won't need to read Watanagashi-hen on a different engine. You can just copy and paste it into the same folder as the original Japanese and play to your heart's content. :)

Currently I'm trying to figure out how to insert the MOV files and stop them from disappearing on me when I convert the folder into the main NSA file. Hopefully, I'll come up with something, but, if worst comes to worst and I can't do it, I'll convert them into voice files, insert those into the scenes in the game, and include a folder with the videos themselves in the patch so you can watch them. Hopefully it won't come to that. ^^

I said I'd be posting how the patch is going, so here goes!

Managed to insert the current translation into the PS2 port. Still need to finish off adding the English translation of Onikakushi-hen, but I figured get Watanagashi-hen out of the way first. Also did the same for the voice files and made sure it all works no problem.

As for the PC patch, finished Day 8 and 9, TIPS included. Just inserting them into the script and editing them so there's no mistakes. Currently in the middle of translating Day 10. Hoping to get that done soon since Watanagashi-hen is so very close to completetion. :)

I know that MangaGamers re-releasing the arcs with the new, improved translation, so I totally understand if, once this is finished, no one wants me to continue onto Tatarigoroshi-hen. I figured I'll get this done and, if you like what you see of my translation and want me to carry on, I'll do so (I won't take forever on the next arc, I swear.)

At the very least, I'm proud of the patch I'll - hopefully - be releasing soon.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. You can also contact me on Tumblr. Thanks for your support. :)

Hey, hey! Just sending a quick update to let everyone know that we're still going strong.

I've been a bit busy as of late, but haven't forgotten about the project and it's all going good. I'm going to try and get this all done by the end of the year, but no promises. :)

I'll update soon and post some pics of my progress! Thanks for your support!

Hello, hello!

It's been a long time, I know (Slow should be my middle name at this point), but I'm happy to say that the patch is going very well. More than halfway through with Watanagashi and making steady, fast progress with it, while the PS2 port version is taking a little longer, but just as good. At the very least, I found a way to convert the voice files in a batch rather than having to do them one by one, so it doesn't take too long.

Syberia's currently editing Day 8 and 9. Soon as I've got the edits and made the changes to the script, I'll post up some pictures and, if you would all like, a video showing the PS2 port in action?

Thanks for all your patience and support, I know I don't deserve it. ^^

Hello there!

Yes, we're still alive. Don't worry, this project is far from abandoned! ^^

First of all, the progress of Watanagashi-hen:

Day 1-Translation=100%/Editing=100%
Day 2-Translation=100%/Editing=100%
Day 3-Translation=100%/Editing=100%
Day 4-Translation=100%/Editing=100%
Day 5-Translation=100%/Editing=100%
Day 6-Translation=100%/Editing=100%
Day 7-Translation=100%/Editing=100%
Day 8-Translation=0%/Editing=0%
Day 9-Translation=0%/Editing=0%
Day 10-Translation=0%/Editing=0%
Day 11-Translation=0%/Editing=0%
Day 12-Translation=0%/Editing=0%
Epilogue 1-Translation=0%/Editing=0%
Epilogue 2-Translation=0%/Editing=0%

Only six more days and the epilogue left to translate and then Watanagashi-hen will be finished! My aim is to definitely have it up for download this year. I know it's taken long - I apologise for that. It's just me doing the translating and I have to do it in my free time when I'm not at work - but rest assured, I'm working hard to make sure it has the best translation possible!

I know that MangaGamer is re-leasing their own translation, but that doesn't mean I'm going to give up. With my translation, you can patch it to the original Japanese VN and get everything that MangaGamer won't be able to include in theirs. Plus, I'm going to try, and I really stress try here, and insert the voice files from the PS2 version into the script. No promises, since I've never been great at that kind of stuff, but it wouldn't hurt to at least try? I've also got my sights set on translating the PS2 and DS only arcs. I think we'd all like to be able to read those in English, right?

Anyway, thank you all for your patience and I'm looking very forward to when Watanagashi-hen is complete and I can upload it for all you to download and play! ^^

Apologies for taking so long, but here it is. This patch of Onikakushi-hen has Sonozaki Futago-tachi's translation on it, but When They Translate's edits made to it. Said changes are:

. Angel Mort is now referred to as a diner instead of a restaurant. .
. Rika says desu rather than yes, and nano desu is left in.
. Rena says adorable rather than keeyute.

You have a choice of two versions. One is the PC patch, which has the original graphics and music, the other is PS2 patch which has PS2 graphics, music and voices. I'd credit whoever made the latter, but I don't know who did, so I'll say it was some anom.

I hope you enjoy reading this and it holds you up while I try to finish Watanagashi-hen. :) If you notice anything in the patches, just message me and I can help as best as I can!

Edit: Upon feedback that there was something wrong with the patches, I've gone back and edited them some more. They be fine now. :)

Hello there! Just popping in to tell you all that the project is going great! Translating is good as ever and I've even managed to get some of the alternative choices for the PS2-only arcs in Higurashi Matsuri done too! ^^

My goal is to have Watanagashi-hen finished and ready for you all to read by at least the end of June! And soon as it's done I'll be getting started on Tatarigoroshi-hen!

I want to thank you all for been so patient for me. I'm the only one translating now but I will see this whole project through to the end! ^^

Day 1-5 and their TIPS are now 100% complete! Day 6 is under way and we've just finished editing Day 3!

I'll be sure to keep you up to date on how it's all going. Next time, I'll post up some previews! :)

Hello to all!

I'm Sum422/BaraToMaya, the one who is translating the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novels!

Firstly, a a happy holidays to you all! I hope you enjoy everyone reading this has a very happy Christmas! ^^

Right, onto the update!

First the bad news: I'm saddened to say that I won't be able to finish Watanagashi-hen by the end of the year like I had hoped. I suppose I was far too optimistic, given how busy I normally am and how the arcs are huge in themselves! It can't be helped, but I'm now officially making it my New Year's resolution to finish Watanagashi-hen and get started on Tatarigoroshi-hen! That and to update more! :)

Now, onto the good news! I'm far better at translating then I was at the beginning of the year, and the translation for Watanagashi-hen is coming along nicely. As well as this, the group's joined with TheGuraGuraMan at fr.lesanglotdescigalespatchhd.wikia.com, who are currently making a complete PS2-patch of the games. I am helping translate the PS2-Extra arcs and will also be lending them my translation for the Higurashi main arcs to use so fans can play the game how it was intended to be! ^^

Here are some photos of the project to give you an example! Most are currently in French, but I've also included the PS2-Extra arc I've started on:

My aim now is to get Watanagashi-hen done and also do the PS2-extra arcs in my spare time. I'll update soon with some pics and a video of my progress and thank you all for being so patient and understanding- especially to my friend and partner in this project, SyberiaWinx. :)
